Embassy Suites by Hilton McAllen Convention Center

Finding the parking lot entrance was the one small hassle. After that, everything about my stay at Embassy Suites McAllen was perfect, including the outstanding view from my room. Carlos checked me in quickly and smoothly, and was friendly, efficient, and made sure I was well accommodated. Happy hour was another highlight. Highly recommend this location.

At 6 PM they still didn't have the rooms ready, and they were short staffed. Free Wi-Fi required handing over a ton of data for them to harvest and sell. I've never had to do that at another Embassy Suites. The bar and front desk staff were super nice, the only redeeming part of the stay, though being nice is their job. I won't stay here again. Do better.

Eva was polite, respectful, accommodating, and did a great job. The hotel is in a good location but books up fast. The breakfast potatoes were overcooked every time. I'd call this a three-star hotel, with some limited room service.

The rooms are comfortable, and being at the convention center makes this a good business hotel. That's about where the good ends. Barry's bistro was a mess from our first day. The menu we received didn't show the food offered at reception, then the server suddenly produced an updated menu. The dish we wanted still wasn't listed, and after about 30 minutes of back and forth with three other waitresses, who had nothing to do since the place was empty, I took pictures of the reception menu. Only then did they agree they had it. The food was delicious, so we returned the second night, but they gave us the wrong bill in a restaurant with only two tables. They couldn't delete the tao and so on, and we had to place a new order and pay again. The really bad part was the jacuzzi. Management says the marks are old paint coming through and that it's cleaned every night. I'll let you judge from the attached pictures and video. The video was taken at 10 AM, right when it opened, before anyone had used it. The water had a musty, unpleasant smell. I'll post another video later, after giving management one more chance to make up for the ruined weekend. I wiped one spot with a towel, and it came away absolutely filthy.
