Holiday Inn Mcallen – Medical Center Area By IHG

I had to wait 45 minutes for a room because they said it was still being cleaned. When I finally got in, the floor hadn’t been vacuumed, there was no toilet paper, and the sheets were stained. There wasn’t even a shower curtain, so showering left a huge mess for me to clean up. The front office only offered to move me to another room when I reported it. I’m glad I’d brought my own pillow and blanket, since I slept on top of the bed. A horrible experience.

The kids, who are only 4 and 6, were excited about our family adventure and too tired to complain about anything. They’re little, so nothing really ruins their day. I had a harder time with the stay. There was a constant, very high-pitched ringing in our room. I thought I was imagining it until I mentioned it to my husband. The layout was odd too, with the sink right by the entrance door, maybe 3-4 inches from the doorknob. For a double room, we got just one towel and no washcloth. The AC felt strangely cold while the room stayed humid, which I didn’t know was possible. And the photos here made me feel catfished. It doesn’t look like the same hotel shown in the Google images, more like the Holiday Inn across the highway.

The manager did make an accommodation, and I appreciate him for that. But the stay was awful. The hotel and check-in area were hot, and the check-in took ages because their system wasn’t working. My first room was 77 degrees, felt like the heater was blasting, and had no towels. They moved me, but at 4 AM the new room was still 77 and felt just as hot. The new girl downstairs then told me the AC had been broken and they’d known for a day. So the first woman who checked me in knew changing rooms wouldn’t fix it. If I’d known it would be so hot, I’d have gone to another hotel. The towels had yellow stains and made me feel gross and unclean. Don’t bother calling the front desk either, they never answer. You have to go downstairs to talk to anyone.

I showed up during the stated check-in hours, but nobody was at the front desk. I waited about 30 minutes without seeing any staff, and had no way to check in, so I left. Later the hotel said someone had been there, which doesn’t match what happened from my end. The communication was poor and frustrating, and I was charged a cancellation fee. Worst experience, wouldn’t recommend.
