Homewood Suites by Hilton McAllen

The staff were really nice, but I wish they’d step in and set rules for the military groups. Regular guests stay here too, and the military doesn’t own the hotel. There were groups taking over common areas wherever I went, and I couldn’t enjoy a night out on the patio. A group seemed to be in the room next to mine and was loud all night. What was meant to be a short, relaxing trip left me feeling uneasy.

I enjoyed staying here. It was very clean, the exercise room was well stocked, and the service was friendly and attentive. Good restaurants are within walking distance, and the location is great.

The bed was very comfortable, and the room was quiet and really clean, with no bad or strange smells. Some things could use refreshing, like the older furniture, carpet, and sink, but I still had a pleasant stay. There are good Hilton amenities, including a digital key and a TV where I could log in to Netflix, plus plenty of other good channels. They also offer a shuttle. I got a free ride to the airport on departure day.

The patio is the best feature here: there’s a fireplace, BBQ grills, nice landscaping, a pool, beach chairs, a half-court basketball hoop, and a pleasant breeze. It’s quiet enough to nap. The lobby opens into seating and dining areas, and the whole layout feels relaxing. Staff are 10/10, friendly and attentive. They offer free breakfast and dinner Monday through Friday, cooked and served by the friendliest people. Dinner comes with complimentary beer and wine. Hard to beat. But the rooms need work on cleanliness. When I entered my King suite, there were hairs on the bathroom floor and in the shower floor and drain. One towel smelled like someone else’s cologne, as if it hadn’t been washed properly or had already been used. The floor under the kitchenette table was greasy, and the cabinets were dirty. That’s why I gave it 2 out of 5. Cleanliness should be a top priority.
