Super 8 Wyndham McAllen Downtown- City Center-Plaza Mall-Airport

I checked out early and moved to Comfort Inn after the noise outside my room kept going. On the second night of my two-night stay, a group of guys in big trucks started tailgating in the parking lot around 7 p.m., with loud music and conversation. As a woman on my own, I didn't feel comfortable confronting them. I called the front desk after they'd been there about an hour, then again around 9 p.m. The desk person said the manager had spoken to them and they expected to finish around 10:30 or 11. They apologized but offered no solution. Apparently there's no noise ordinance? If that hadn't happened, I'd have called the stay just meh. The towels were rough, the room felt institutional, with mostly bare white walls, one black and white picture behind the bed, and a tiled floor with no rugs to soften the echoes. The AC was loud when it cycled and kept waking me the first night. The layout was a surprise too. What looked like a ground-floor room had two flights of stairs inside, leading to a hallway, a separate bathroom and bedroom, and another locked door. Anyone with mobility challenges should know about those stairs. The place isn't at all ADA compliant. It was cheap and near where I needed to go, but I'd choose another motel.

We were in a difficult spot, and nobody seemed willing to show any consideration. Our semi truck was supposed to be released, so after booking two nights we stayed about three, then checked out. It wasn't released until Monday, Nov 10, 2025, so our company booked us here again. We knew check-in was at 4 p.m., and we were only asking to wait in the reception area. At first they let us leave our things and wait there after 11 in the morning until a room was available. We went to eat nearby, but when we came back, the staff member on the 1 p.m. shift wouldn't let us wait inside. The staff before her had allowed it, so I don't understand why the rule changed with her. My experience with this hotel and the towing company was so mean. We're not from here, and we'd tried to be considerate, but no one was considerate to us. I'll never book here again.

We meant to stay one night and ended up staying a week. This is the best place we've stayed since leaving home in January to spend the winter down south. The manager, office staff, and cleaning crew were all accommodating, and the rooms were clean and well maintained. I loved the kitchen area, and the washer and dryer were clean. There was breakfast, too, and they applied a veterans discount.

Basic motel, fine for a quick stay. The location is handy, near McAllen's best mall.
