Hampton Inn Melbourne

The eggs at breakfast were a strange take on fried eggs and tasted rubbery. We also found the room controls confusing: after turning up the wall AC control and being out for a couple of hours, we came back to a room at 64 degrees. The wall control apparently did nothing, and the unit by the window had to be adjusted directly. The TV had no guide, and the guide button on the remote didn’t work. In the bathroom, the sink drained very slowly and the towel rack was coming off the wall. We stayed here in 2018 and 2019, and it’s gone downhill a lot over the last 7 - 8 years. We won’t be back.

The biggest problem was the rain coming through the ceiling onto our bed. I put a towel down to protect the mattress, and management didn’t do much after I reported the problems. They offered to move us, but that was when I had only 12h left in the stay. Our newly remodeled room was clean, with clean carpets, and the staff were kind and helpful. But doors slammed all night, the AC wouldn’t keep running, and the room got stuffy. The bathroom shelf was broken, there was no fan, and after a hot shower the room was literally dripping. The shower diverter was broken too, so only about 20% of the water came through the showerhead. The fridge temperature couldn’t be adjusted, and a can of carbonated water froze and burst in the middle of the night, scaring us out of bed. The first-floor public areas looked like they badly needed renovation.

The location was amazing. Everything else was awful, and I’m not coming back. The internet kept going out while I was here for work, the TV channel guide QR code didn’t work, and there was no other way to get the guide. The bed sheets didn’t fit. Half the time I came back, the “fitted” sheet was lying on top of the mattress, so I had to put it back on every day. The carpets were filthy. I walked barefoot from the bathroom to the bed, maybe eight steps, and my feet turned black. I rinsed them off and stepped on the carpet again, with the same result. It seemed like those carpets had never been steamed or cleaned. Breakfast was awful too. They were out of almost every juice, and the bacon was barely edible each day of my weeklong stay. The air conditioner screeched constantly, and the desk didn’t care when I told them. The pool had a thick film on the surface. I spent at least 20 minutes clearing leaves, dead bugs, trash, and more centipedes than I could count before I could swim. It’s supposedly for guests only, but local pothead kids use it too.

Wayne, the Sales Director, made our honeymoon stay feel special. I’d contacted him to ask about a surprise for my husband, and he went above and beyond. The front desk knew about the occasion and congratulated us. They also upgraded our room for free, where we found red roses, a staff note, and chilled wine. The room was clean and well stocked, and the AC worked wonderfully. When the toilet stopped flushing properly on Day 2, we told the desk. Within minutes Wayne showed up with a plunger and fixed it quickly, and we had no more issues. The complimentary hot breakfast was fantastic, with a waffle station and plenty of options that varied by day. We found it comfortable and affordable. There are lots of restaurants and shops nearby, and the hotel sits back from the main road, so traffic wasn’t noisy. The pool was clean and well maintained, though we didn’t use it because it was November. We’ll stay again when we’re in the area. Huge thanks to Wayne for making the visit exceptional.
