Hilton Melbourne, FL

I remembered this as a beautiful hotel from when I stayed here seven years ago to get ready on my wedding day. This past weekend, though, the rooms felt neglected and damp, with a musty mildew smell. Furniture had large chips and cracks, the TV picture was fuzzy and the color was way off, with no way to adjust it. There were marks and stains everywhere. The shower door wouldn’t stay shut, and a massive crack in the shower floor had been “repaired” with a thick layer of caulking. There were pink hair dye or similar stains on the walls, and rust and dirt on the balcony. The room felt cheap. The lobby is still nice and the staff very friendly, but the rooms are sad. At $250 a night, it just isn’t worth it and doesn’t meet Hilton standards.

The gym was the one good thing, though the Quality Inn has a better one with a bench press. The room and bed were only okay. The bathroom sink had no cold water, and the hot tap was so hot I could’ve burned my hand. Shower pressure was really low. They charged 2 dollars for water, which is ridiculous when it’s a necessity, and Wi-Fi and breakfast cost extra too. I’d rather stay at the Quality Inn for its free water and breakfast. The fridge was awful. It took two nights to cool my Kirkland plastic bottle, and the heater didn’t work at all. The charger was loose and hanging, too. I’d give it 0 stars. My stay was horrendous and the place seems poorly managed. I honestly don’t think anyone in their right mind would pay 2 dollars for one plastic water bottle. I figure good ratings probably come from people who paid a lot or are Hilton Honors members, like diamond or similar.

The rooms are spacious compared with most and were clean, with a roomy bathroom. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. There are only two elevators, and it felt tacky seeing cleaning staff share them with guests while bringing a trash can along.

The bedcovers and linens were so hot that we woke up sweating every night. Although the room itself was standard, some of the furnishings and fittings felt flimsy, with parts of the lamp, bathroom door handle, and toilet flush handle falling apart. They charged $10/day for parking even though the lot was pretty empty. This didn’t feel up to the Hilton name.
