Memphis Riverline Hotel

I lost confidence in this hotel after finding ants in two different rooms. I was first put in Room 1231, where they were in both the bathroom and the bed. They moved me to another room, which looked fine at first, but after I returned from my event that night, ants were in the shower and crawling all over the dresser. There was no food in my room at any point, so this wasn’t caused by a guest. The staff seemed unfazed and showed little urgency or concern. I checked out at about 3:40 a.m. because I didn’t feel safe or comfortable staying there. At this price and brand level, basic cleanliness should be expected, but the property didn’t meet even minimal standards. My stay at the Sheraton Downtown this past weekend was extremely disappointing, and I wouldn’t recommend it. Corporate still hasn’t responded to my claim.

Be very careful here and watch your credit card statements. Sheraton is trying to charge me $250 for smoking, even though I don’t smoke and nobody in my room does. The stay itself was mediocre at best, and they seem to have no problem billing guests for something they didn’t do. I won’t stay here again. Absolute clown hotel with room keys. 🎪 When I asked about the fee, all I got was vague replies and no real explanation, just that “it was reported.” Reported by who, and based on what? Where’s the evidence? I’m convinced the “evidence” was someone walking in, sniffing dramatically, then deciding my wallet looked flammable. The only smoke getting blown right now is from Sheraton going right up my rear.

After nearly 15 hours of travel with my kids and two dogs, we were denied check-in at the Sheraton Memphis Downtown over an Explore Rate verification issue, even though the authorization had been submitted electronically. The front desk associate was rigid and unapologetic, with no hospitality or empathy. We were left in the lobby with our luggage and children for almost an hour while we sorted it out ourselves. Once we got to the room, things didn’t improve. The property, especially the rooms, feels run down and outdated. Hot water in the shower made the pipes rattle loudly, and nobody answered when we called the front desk for help. The poor service, lack of response, and upkeep made for a frustrating stay. It wasn’t the experience I expect from a Marriott property.

We enjoyed our stay in the corner room, and the view was pleasant. The bed was comfortable, and nights were very quiet. We couldn’t hear people walking or doors slamming, which was great. The thermostat wouldn’t go low enough for us, so the room felt warm. There aren’t any USB plugs, so bring your own. If you need sound to sleep, bring a sound machine or a charger with a nugget to use your phone for sound.
