Blackberry Inn

The sitting area in our room was a favorite, especially when the morning sun came in or we wanted to watch the sunset. We also liked the whole place's decor, and the room felt a bit like a banker’s office. It was very clean, and the spa tub was a nice extra. No jets, but it was lovely to relax in a tub with my partner, since it's hard to find one that fits two. There was a shower as well. We were happy they welcomed dogs. My partner and I stayed here for our 'babymoon' over the 4th, driving down Hwy 1. Being minutes from Mendocino and so close to the ocean worked well for us. We'd definitely come back.

Our cabin was more spacious than expected, with a wood-burning stove, a large table for four, long sofa benches, a kitchenette, and a private bathroom. It was nearly all carpeted, with double sinks and separate shower and tub options. The private entrance and parking meant we didn't have far to walk, even though two or three cabins are grouped together. The furnishings and facilities are dated, but well cared for. The rooms seem to be old cabins remodeled around different themes, with a painted old-time town frontage, like a Sheriff's office, blacksmith, general store, or newspaper gazette. The inside decor follows the theme lightly. It's quiet, clean, quaint, and near town, but expensive for what you get. After I showered, using my hair dryer set off the smoke detector's low-battery chirp for about 15 minutes. The room also had that hard-to-describe old-house smell. Breakfast isn't provided, so I'd suggest Mendocino Hotel Restaurant nearby. The food is delicious, with plenty of nicer and more unusual choices than the usual breakfast places. Blackberry Inn is a nice place, just on the expensive side.

We stayed in the Saloon room, which still had its old-time character but also the modern basics: a flat-screen TV, fridge, microwave, strong free Wi-Fi, and coffee maker. The bed was so comfortable, and I finally got a good night's sleep on vacation. Waking up to birds and ocean sounds was lovely. From the room, the ocean view came through the redwoods. The grounds were gorgeous, covered in lush flowers and succulents, and our hostess was lovely. She had homemade muffins and brownies, too. The place was every bit as adorable as promised, and a great deal for Mendocino. I'd absolutely recommend it for a cozy getaway.

We first found the Blackberry Inn a few years ago and have kept coming back. It's only a few hours from home, so Mendocino is an easy place for us to unwind and enjoy nature. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the inn is a calming respite we can count on.
