Mendocino Hotel & Garden

I spent one night here in November and was disappointed. The location is nice, but the room didn't match what I'd expected from the Google Maps photos. It felt old, with unsettling pictures on the walls, and the floor squeaked loudly whenever I walked. I could hear constant noise from above and next door, so I had trouble sleeping all night. The furniture and bed were extremely dated and didn't feel clean. It wasn't comfortable.

I could hear everything happening in nearby rooms, and even people talking, walking, or using the hallway bathroom kept waking me up. Dogs were barking too. The rugs and mattresses were filthy, there was garbage under my bed, and the shared bathrooms were disgusting and had no toilet paper. When I asked about it, they said housekeeping hadn't come, and left things in disarray. The entire place smelled of skunks and cigarettes, and the restaurant was closed. It felt abandoned. I wish I'd slept in my car. Please don't waste your money here!

The location is central, but opening the windows can let in street noise. We waited 10 minutes because nobody was at reception when we arrived. The hotel feels like it's from 1950. There's no air conditioning, the top floor doors get very hot, and there are no mosquito nets on the windows. The slanted ceiling above the bed made me worry I'd hit my head, and the electrical outlets felt fragile. There are no elevators or breakfast. At least the Wi-Fi worked, thank God. This is two-star at most, not three.

This was my second stay here, and it was just as good as the first. The Garden Suites are behind the actual Medocino Hotel, between Ukiah St and Albion St, where you check in. The grounds are beautiful, with plenty of parking. Check-in and checkout went smoothly, and the bed was comfortable with great water pressure. They serve coffee, hot chocolate, and tea beside the check-in desk from 8 to 11 a.m. Great hotel in a great location. I highly recommend it and will be back.
