San Joaquin Motel

I would’ve liked another towel and at least a bar of soap. There was no soap, shampoo, or anything like that. The manager was very insistent and a bit rude, though with the part of town it’s in, I can’t say I blame her. The rooms are simple, not great, but clean, and there’s a TV. At $100, they should offer better amenities and be less rude. Still, I respect that they’ve stayed in business all these years. The hygiene is far better than at the other cheaper motels in the area, so I’m giving it five stars.

Our last day, the fire alarm went off and set off the sprinkler in our sleeping area. The fire marshal explained what had happened, but management still wanted to kick us out, even after staff said it wasn’t our fault. A sensitive sensor had triggered it, not smoke. The room flooded and damaged all our personal belongings. When I asked for compensation and their insurance details, operations manager Surdeep refused. That was after a week without electricity, following our first night there with no water. In our final week, there was a possum nest in the backyard. This was the worst motel I’ve ever had to stay in Fresno. Never again. Watch out for this place.

The online prices and room options were wrong. We asked for a double queen but got a double twin. We decided to leave, and they kept money as a “service fee” when refunding us. It seems like a scam and like a good spot for your car to get broken into. I’d give negative stars if I could.

The staff are lovely, the rooms are amazing, and I’ve made lots of good memories here. Pricing is very reasonable, and most of the time there’s no deposit. Just follow the staff’s prompts and the rules. There aren’t many, but this family-owned business cares about respect and avoiding drama or damage. It’s a fun hotel and one of the best in Merced, CA. I always enjoy staying here, and can’t wait to come back!
