Quality Inn Merrillville

I stayed one night at the Quality Inn in Merrillville and couldn’t relax at all. The room was filthy and plainly hadn’t been cleaned properly: stained bedspread, dirty, worn couch, grime on the bathroom floor and around the toilet, a yellow and dirty shower curtain, and a microwave that looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in ages. The whole place smelled like marijuana, and guests smoked openly in their rooms without the hotel enforcing any non-smoking policy. I shouldn’t have to deal with weed smoke in a hotel room. It didn’t meet basic hygiene or comfort standards. I’d never stay again or recommend it. Save your money and go somewhere else.

There was only 1 towel in the room for two adults, and both the front desk and housekeeper said they didn’t have enough to give us more washcloths or towels. The toilet wouldn’t flush normally, so each time we had to open the tank and flush it ourselves, and even then it could take a long time. The room smelled of smoke and wasn’t cleaned well. There was a dirty tissue in the drawer and coffee grounds on the nightstand. There were holes in the wall and the desk chair was so broken it could have collapsed if anyone sat in it. I wouldn’t recommend this place and wish I could get my money back. At check-in, the overworked front desk person complained about working a 16 hr shift. The staff didn’t seem reliable.

The linens were stained, one looked like they’d cleaned up pee, and the pillowcase was filthy. We were yelled at by the front desk employee (Fred) when we asked for more of something. When we asked him not to be rude, he told us to leave. We went back to pack, and the key cards had somehow been turned off. By the time we got downstairs, he had replacement cards ready without us asking. Fishy. We won’t be back.

The room and sheets smelled like cigarettes, and the rr curtain was covered in mold and dirt. When I was getting changed and ready to check out, the staff walked in halfway through my checkout day. The front desk people, morning and night, were rude. The tub was disgusting, too. They need better staff and quality products. I’ve never stayed somewhere so rude and filthy. I should get a refund. Do not stay there.
