Delta Hotels by Marriott Phoenix Mesa

Danielle 1, Danielle 2, and Jon handled all my requests and made check-in great. The rooms, beds, and pillows were very good, and the service was exceptional. It's right by downtown, with plenty of restaurants to choose from. Easily the best hotel in the East Valley. I wouldn't stay anywhere else around here. Enjoy!

The staff were genuinely kind. After hearing what we were celebrating, they left us cheesecake and wine, and they tried to help after our first sleepless night. That meant a lot. But we spent five nights and more than $1,100 at Delta by Marriott for our first anniversary, my birthday, and my wife's master's degree graduation, and the room fell short of what the brand and price should deliver. Wallpaper was peeling at the seams across the room, the couch and lampshade were damaged, and only one light switch worked. We could clearly hear hallway conversations and the people in the adjoining room all night. We lost sleep on a trip meant to be a celebration. The GM, Janet Hof, replied publicly to my update and acknowledged the problems, saying items would be fixed or replaced. I appreciate the response, but peeling wallpaper, damaged furniture and lampshade, one working switch, and no real soundproofing don't appear overnight. It felt like deferred maintenance in a room that shouldn't have been offered for $1,100 or more for five nights, especially for an anniversary, birthday, and master's graduation stay. We have a case open with Marriott Guest Services and hope the follow-through matches the public response.

The employees were very friendly, and the room service and food were the best parts of our stay. But we won't stay here again, and I'm surprised Marriott owns the place. The hotel has been around for years and was supposedly remodeled, but it seems they hired the cheapest, fastest contractors. Wallpaper was peeling on nearly every wall. Looking more closely, I found mold under the bathroom wallpaper. It looked as though the bathroom had flooded and they had simply covered it up. The hallway carpet was badly stained, and the whole hotel smelled old.

Evelin helped me in the breakfast area this morning, and she and the other staff were so kind and patient, even though I'd just rolled out of bed and could barely make a coherent sentence. The staff overall have been amazing. The room was clean and nice, and it's very close to the convention center. The bar serves decent food at reasonable prices for a hotel.
