American Inn

My husband looked at the room before we unloaded the car, then came back out shaking his head. We got our money back and left. Just no.

The desk clerk was very polite, and we did manage to get the quick sleep we needed before continuing our drive. That's mainly what we needed from a motel. But for what they charge, I'd go elsewhere. There was no TV remote, and housekeeping knocked at 9 am and again at 10:30, even though checkout wasn't until 11 and there wasn't a do not disturb sign. It made it hard to rest and get packed for the road. The room wasn't clean. Someone else's hair was all over the sheets and some pillowcases, and the bed skirt had stains and what looked like mold. There were roaches, torn curtains with holes, water damage on the ceiling, and furniture that was worn and ripped. Repairs were visible all over. I know it's an older motel and some wear is expected, but the cleanliness needs attention.

Breakfast was a nice surprise, with bacon, eggs, grits, cereal, and plenty of other things. The staff were very nice, and it's close to the VA hospital, so I'd stay again. We did find a roach and told the staff in the morning. They said we should have called the front desk, since they could have moved us and handled the problem.

The desk person was friendly, but the man who helped her move the fridge felt creepy. He asked whether we had any beer. The fridge didn't work, and the replacement was another rusty old one. There was insect powder behind every piece of furniture and along the baseboards. We kept our dog with us the whole time so he wouldn't get it on his nose. Just don't stay here.
