The Colony Hotel

It's past 2 AM and I'm writing this because the horrible humming in my room makes the bed vibrate, so sleeping is impossible. I asked reception to move me, but they said there was no availability. When I asked for my money back so I could go elsewhere, they said no. I told them people pay to get some sleep, and the receptionist replied, "People pay to have a room." Ridiculous. I can't wait for daylight so I can leave this dump and find somewhere I can sleep. It's filthy, stinky, and run down. There's makeup on the sheets and pillowcases, though it's not mine, and hairs on the towels that aren't mine either. If I could give minus one star, I would. Avoid it. There are plenty of better hotels on Ocean Drive. I can't even call this a hotel.

The Colony Hotel sits right across from Lummus Park and the beach, among the palms, ocean views, and historic buildings on Ocean Drive. It's an ideal spot for restaurants, nightlife, and beach access, with the energy and history of South Beach all around. It's also one of the most recognizable buildings in Miami Beach's Art Deco Historic District. The bright pastel blue facade and classic vertical "COLONY" sign make it a landmark people photograph often. By day you can see the clean Art Deco lines and pastel colors; at night the neon gives the area that familiar retro Miami glow.

Montanas was great, and Sandra made several evenings of our trip so enjoyable. She's a wonderful waitress from Southern Spain, exactly the sort of person you'd hope to have looking after you. Anastasia was just as incredible.

The room was small but had enough space for the two of us, and the bathroom was adequate. The bed was comfy and clean, the white towels were lovely, and beach towels were available free. Room service was excellent. It could use a little TLC, but what a location, possibly the most iconic spot on Ocean Drive! We also recommend eating at Montanas.
