Crates at the Gaythering - Hostel

I was told this Hotel was the best place for a gay experience, and Gaythering really had it all together. The bedroom felt five-star, with a huge, comfortable bed. The bar is small, but I loved it as a spot to meet new people, and the drinks were well priced, cheaper than Twist. My husband and I had a lot of fun in the sauna with people from around the world. I got naughty with a guy from Italy, Colombia, Domenican Rp and Venezuela in the same night. It was awesome and worth every dollar. #Gaythering @Gaythering #buzzybooth

I’ve stayed here three times now. It’s pleasantly quiet, away from the chaos of South Beach, and the rooms have a fun, quirky feel instead of looking like every other hotel. I got a little bistro table just outside my room, which was a nice extra. The small bar has a fun vibe and something going on each night. The sauna’s tiny and only has lockers, but I still had a great time.

After checking in for a fully paid two-night stay, I was already in the room and showering when someone knocked on the window and told me I couldn’t stay. I asked for the manager, only to find that it was the same person who then made things worse. He was hostile and disrespectful, insulted me in English, and said he’d refund me but that I had to leave right away. I experienced his behavior as racist and intimidating. I said I’d only go if the police were called. The officers were kind and professional. They explained that it was private property and calmly advised me not to leave my money somewhere I was being treated that way, and to change hotels. So I did. The hotel presents itself as gay-friendly and inclusive, but what I went through was humiliating. The incident was recorded on the hotel’s security cameras. Please be careful booking your vacation here. Our community deserves spaces where people are truly safe.

The best part of our stay was the in-room massage we booked with Alejandro after the front desk recommended him. He brings his own table and has magical hands, and kept checking that the pressure felt right. I love a good deep tissue massage, so I’m already looking forward to booking another one with him next time. The Hotel Gaythering is a great place to stay, too. Our room had everything we needed, the bed was big and comfortable, and we appreciated the free breakfast.
