We used to enjoy staying here, but our last two visits changed our minds. On our most recent stay, two of the three desk staff were unfriendly and didn’t apologize after our keys hadn’t been scanned properly for the two nights. We couldn’t get through the exterior door in 8-degree weather, and at 4 a.m. the side door keys didn’t work either. The attendant couldn’t tell us when those doors were accessible. We also had no complimentary water in the room. When my husband asked at the desk, he was sent to a vending machine that was out of water. The pool, listed prominently on the check-in sheet, was completely drained, and no one mentioned that when we arrived. We do sometimes use it, so that was disappointing. On an earlier visit, we asked to check in at 2:30, half an hour before the usual 3:00 time. The same desk representative simply told us to come back at 3:00 instead of checking whether a room was ready. It wasn’t a deal breaker then, but many hotels will check availability, especially on a Friday in the middle of winter. Each problem might seem small by itself, but together they made for a poor stay. We won’t be back. There are several nearby casino hotels with much better service.

I used to have a Gold Card, then moved up to a Choice Card over a few months of regular play, but somehow ended up losing rewards instead of getting more. The program feels unfair, and the machines feel extremely tight. When I asked about concert tickets, they said we needed to play more. Seems like $15 tickets matter more than keeping loyal players. Between that and the rewards setup taking away benefits, the experience just isn’t worth it.

The hotel was clean and the staff were nice, but it wasn’t worth what we paid. The mattress felt like concrete, and there was no water pressure in the shower. There are showers only, no tubs. The shampoo and other products were in wall dispensers, but pressing the buttons didn’t get anything out, so I had to take one apart. There weren’t any real blankets. When we asked, they brought a thick sheet they called a blanket. We could adjust the temperature, but we like having a blanket, so bring one if you’re the same. There’s just one USB charging port, on the little clock, and it charges slowly. My phone was at 20% when I plugged it in and still wasn’t charged by morning. Bring a charging cube or you may be out of luck. We couldn’t try breakfast because, I guess, they close when there’s a concert at the casino. We had a reservation at coal creek and arrived 15 minutes early, but the person at the hostess stand was confused. He had us written down for two different times, thought our table had been given away, and said we were booked an hour earlier. We did get seated, but then learned the full menu wasn’t available because of the concert. I don’t think we’ll return.

It was a fun time, and the people at the door were really nice. The restaurants and bars were a letdown, though. Even the bar near the event wasn’t that busy, but drinks took forever and several people gave up and left. Backwoods Bar and grill didn’t have a bartender at all. They need more staff, especially on event nights. The bartenders also weren’t very welcoming.

The band was good and the BBQ was excellent, so I’d come back for another band I follow and would love to eat the BBQ again. There was plenty of parking, but the smoke hit us as soon as we walked in. I don’t smoke, and although I’ve been to other casinos, I was surprised by how much smoke was in the air. The person taking our order seemed in a bad mood and was hateful, but I didn’t let that ruin the night. The smoke is a real turnoff, you leave smelling like you’ve smoked a whole carton.
