Baymont by Wyndham Michigan City

The stay was comfortable, thanks largely to how clean the hotel was and how friendly and quick to help the staff were. The whole place, from lobby to rooms, looked well kept. We did run into a couple of small annoyances: the TV remote didn't always respond, and the bathroom fan wasn't working, so the room got a bit humid after showers.

I'd come back. For a budget friendly place, it had welcoming curb appeal, accommodating staff, and was cleaner than most homes. There was a balcony, free breakfast, plus a clean pool and fitness room. It was very functional, and you can bring more than just your toothbrush. I'd give it a high 3.

We paid $170 after taxes and fees, and this place wasn't worth even $40. It was filthy, with dirt and grime everywhere, garbage left by the previous guest, dead ants on the towels, a dead moth on the toilet paper, and a beer can on the balcony. They had no clean comforter left when we asked for one. The location felt seedy, and the place smelled like mold and dirty diapers. Don't come here.

We picked this hotel because we wanted to use the pool and hot tub the next morning before leaving. The sign said the pool opened at 8, but when I called the office, the person there just insisted it was 9. The cleaning lady went into the pool area a little after 9, and we got in then, but the hot tub was cloudy and foamy, and too cold to stay in. The room floor looked okay, yet our feet turned black after walking on it a couple of times. The hallway carpet was badly stained. We could have stayed across the street for half the price with no pet fee, so the closed pool was especially disappointing.
