Clarion Inn

The indoor pool and hot tub were a nice feature, though the other guests using them during our stay were obnoxious adults getting drunk and kids running around screaming. In the room, we had a patio table outside, which made a nice spot for breakfast, and the breakfast itself offered plenty of choices. The room was fairly clean and not bad for the price, but the bathroom was the smallest I've ever seen and we had no hot water for showers that morning. There were also far too few outlets for charging a phone and laptop. At $99 a night, it wasn't a terrible pick for our two-night Memorial weekend stay.

We had a room down the hall from the pool, and the AC didn't work, so it was unbearably hot. There was mold near the shower and stains all over the carpet. Management said our guests had to leave the pool or I'd be charged another $250, even though there were only four other people. One of our guests was 14 and staying the night, the youngest age allowed, but they told him he looked too young for the hot tub and to get out, while a child wearing floaties was in there. There were so many problems and the night was a hassle. I'll never stay here again. It was one of the worst hotels in Michigan City.

I've stayed at other Clarions and only had good things to say, but this independently owned property lost my respect. The front desk staff seemed young and inexperienced, which wouldn't have mattered if they hadn't been texting when I and other customers walked up. The professionalism I expect just wasn't there. My first room had stained sheets, and when I asked to move, I was treated like a big inconvenience. It took two tries to get the room right. I'm a road warrior and have stayed at all kinds of hotels, though I have to admit Hilton hotels have spoiled me.

My one-bed room was simple, but clean, and the bathroom and bedding smelled clean too. I didn't expect a mini fridge and microwave, so those were a nice bonus. The employee who checked me in was very rude, but the person who checked me out was wonderful. No other complaints.
