Sleep Inn & Suites New Hampton

The staff were friendly, apologetic, and clearly trying to do their best, and I felt the area was safe. The rooms were also clean and comfortable. But for a sold-out weekend, with a Spartan race, a lacrosse tournament, and two weddings in town, the hotel seemed unprepared. We visited with family from 10/17-10/19 and couldn’t really use the pool because private swim lessons took up the small pool for two or three hours. Paying guests were left to the shallow side, and towels weren’t replenished. This was around 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Breakfast ran out of pancake batter, orange juice, bacon, and eggs 45 minutes before service ended. Management knew it was a busy weekend, yet supplies and amenities weren’t ready for the demand. The gym was clean and empty, at least. There’s also no hotel shop for snacks or drinks, just old-fashioned cash vending machines. Although they say they take $10 and $20 bills, they really only accept $1s and $5s, since change comes back in quarters and larger bills won’t go through. This wasn’t a problem with the service from the employees. Sleep Inn, at nearly $300 a night even with a discount, could do a lot better.

The front desk team has always been a pleasure, and having continental breakfast included is a plus. We’ve stayed here before for a weekend away, even though it’s not far from home. The hotel is generally clean, and there’s a small gym and indoor pool. The rooms have nice options: this time we booked a king with a fireplace, which was a pleasant touch, plus a pullout couch that gave us extra seating and a coffee table. The bathroom is spacious, the pillows are fluffy, and there’s a TV, microwave, roomy mini fridge, and other amenities. The location is handy for highways, stores, restaurants, parks, and more. My husband found the bed comfortable, though I don’t sleep well anywhere because of my curves. The lobby furniture could use replacing. The chairs by the elevators look very dirty, and the couches have covers that make them look dingy. Maybe people sit there after using the pool, but either way it doesn’t look good. At breakfast, a woman restocking the food and coffee was on speakerphone at 7 a.m. My husband and I choose that early, usually quiet time so we can eat in peace. It felt unprofessional for someone to be working while on a phone call.

The breakfast changed each day, so we weren’t eating the same thing every morning. Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate were available all day, and the shampoo and conditioner dispensers in the shower were handy. Body wash would be a nice addition. I didn’t swim, but the pool looked warm and spotless when I checked. I appreciated seeing staff vacuuming, mopping, and tidying throughout the hotel. The bathrooms were spotless, the beds fairly comfortable, and the property was clean and well maintained. Sleep Inn in Middletown was good value for the price, and we had a very positive stay.

The breakfast was amazing, and I’d recommend this hotel for the welcoming, professional staff. Most of all, Andre at the front desk was so kind when I arrived late and found my reservation all messed up. He used his own phone to contact the online booking service and help fix it. I was overwhelmed and worried about having somewhere to stay that night, and he helped calm me down. He was genuinely caring and went out of his way to help. Andre works overnight and also helped with breakfast in the morning. I thought he might have been exaggerating, but there he was, still working with a smile. I really admire his commitment. The whole experience was great, and I appreciate him and the rest of the staff.
