Rock City Motel

We’ve stayed here many times and run into a lot of problems. Once, the tub wouldn’t stop running and water flooded the floor. On our most recent visit the TV didn’t work, and the front desk was no help. The grounds are poorly kept, and the room’s old outlets don’t hold plugs well. There aren’t enough outlets, either. Since this is the only motel in town, Salina would be a better place to stay.

We ended up going ahead with the stay, and the place was exceptionally clean. The beds were okay. Before booking, though, I’d make sure you understand the refund policy. We had reserved Friday and Saturday, then got an urgent call early Saturday morning that meant we had to go home. Around 9:30, the office was closed and no one was there, so we called. They said they weren’t on site and wouldn’t refund us, even with more than 24 hours’ notice. They were very firm about it. A little later, the nice woman who owns the place came out to clean a room, so someone was there.

It’s a small, quiet town away from the beaten path, and the owners are nice. The room was dated, but that didn’t bother me. It was clean and quiet, the price was reasonable, and the bed was comfortable. If you just need a room to get a good night’s sleep, this place works.

I can’t recommend this place, especially if you don’t want someone entering your room without permission or reason. The room was clean, but after we got back from our one-hour drive, the woman running the motel said we had to leave because the computer was down and she couldn’t find our reservation. We showed her the confirmation email. With no other place within 50 miles and snow almost starting, she eventually gave us the room we’d paid for. For a week, she waited until we went out each day, then went into the room just to look around, not to clean or change towels. She was very rude to my wife. I’m not completely sure, but I somehow lost my gold rope chain with a gold ring on it. I almost never lose things, though maybe it was possible or a coincidence. You can judge for yourself.
