The Gonzo Inn

We stayed in the fireplace suite, room 114, in mid-December. It was large, very clean, affordable, and the location is hard to beat. The staff were kind and accommodating. A few things kept this from five stars. I requested a firm mattress when booking, but the one in the room was worn and soft enough that I could feel the springs. Bicycles can't be kept in the room; they have to go in the secured storage area, and access is limited to set time slots. The floors and walls are thin, so we could hear steps from upstairs and sounds from next door. Water running through the walls for the adjoining rooms was also loud enough that we knew when the neighbors were showering. Even with those minor issues, I'd highly recommend the place and hope to stay again.

We've stayed here three times, most recently this week while traveling with our dogs. The location just off the main strip is terrific, with everything an easy walk away, and it's very pet friendly. Rooms are spacious, clean, and quiet. Our last room didn't have a bathroom door. That was fine for us, though it may not work for everyone. The staff are amazing and the included breakfast is delicious. Best hotel in Moab!

That covered patio was lovely, and we used it a lot. Our first-floor suite had plenty of space, and the location made it easy to walk to shops and restaurants while still feeling tucked away. The Gonzo Inn has a fun retro look, and the staff were warm and genuinely helpful from the start. The room needs attention, though. A musty smell stuck around, and the bathroom drain gave off an unpleasant odor whenever we used the sink. The fan didn't clear the moisture after showers, and our clothes came home smelling of mildew. I had to wash everything twice. The harsh fluorescent LEDs were unflattering, but with them off the room felt too dark even in daytime. Softer bulbs would help. There’s a lot of heart here, and I hope the owners invest in the upkeep the rooms need. The people and character make the place worth rooting for.

The location made everything easy, with food and shops close enough to reach on foot. We really enjoyed our stay at The Gonzo Inn: the staff were great and the room was even better. We’ll stay here again next time we’re in town.
