Candlewood Suites Mobile‑Downtown by IHG

The area is quiet, with a lot of office buildings nearby, but there aren't many franchise restaurants around apart from Chick-fil-A. The place itself was spacious, clean, and friendly. The dishes were clean, and staff brought towels quickly. Everything was great except housekeeping never came, even though we requested it during our two-night, three-day stay.

The room and lobby were clean, and the kitchenette has a dishwasher and a sink disposal. The lobby coffee was pretty good, and the parking lot is well lit at night. There's a dog poop station near the lot exit. The hotel is right across from the US district court building.

The only thing I wish they had was breakfast. Otherwise, it went well beyond what I expected from candlewood, maybe two stars above its level. Mobile may not be a famous travel destination, but this could be a good starting point for visitors. The rooms are new, large, and clean, and the renovation seems fairly recent. The owner used solid materials and provided plenty of items and furniture. The bed is soft, with two pillow firmness options. The area is quiet, the parking lot is nicely lit, and there's a laundry room. I highly recommend this place.

The one bright spot was a genuinely friendly and helpful employee, I think the one who rides a bicycle around the property. But that didn't make up for the rest of the stay, and I can't recommend this Candlewood Suites in Mobile. My room was dirty when I arrived, with stains on the sheets. Management just handed me clean sheets and told me to make the bed myself instead of fixing the problem. They also put a ticket on my car after forgetting to give me a parking permit at check-in. Other guests said this happens often, so it seems to be an ongoing issue. The property is advertised as smoke-free, but people, including staff, were constantly smoking outside near the TV area. They even have a “smoker alley,” which makes those smoke-free signs seem misleading. I hope management takes these problems seriously for future guests.
