Extended Stay America Suites Mobile Spring Hill

After only three days, the air purifier and dehumidifier I bought had collected absolutely disgusting amounts. The room was damp and smelled of mildew and something rotten, with mold on towels, clothes, walls, inside the cabinets, and dishes. We had to throw out several personal items because of the moisture. The AC leaked all over the floor and ruined our travel boxes. There was no hot water for three weeks, or sometimes no water at all, and when it came through orange with rust, the tub and faucets got rusty too. The fridge smelled awful, and random thick white paste came out of the bottom. Staff were constantly knocking like the police, including multiple visits while my husband was at work, whether or not we’d received notice. I’m 19, and once I woke up to a grown maintenance man at the door, who brought four other grown men into my room without notice. I felt violated and unsafe as they moved my things around. The walls were thin, so I heard people on the stairs and yelling outside at night, and smelled smoke from next door or outside. I couldn’t sleep with the noise and smoke, plus maintenance always in my space. The room keys kept dying, so I had to go to the front desk countless times for recharging. Only one stovetop burner worked at a time.

The breakfast to go is good, and they offer corporate rates. I’m from Port Arthur TX, so having room service only every two weeks and making my own bed and mopping when needed has taken some getting used to. I’m also a little disappointed that I don’t earn perks points.

The property is filthy, and cleanliness seems to come last. The elevator floor is disgusting, and the laundry room is never cleaned. Smoke constantly comes through the vents, and I’ve had to call the office many times about loud music. A creepy man lives in his car in the parking lot, using drugs and harassing women. A district manager was supposed to call me about it, but weeks passed with no call. I also had to call corporate just to get hot water after a week. The manager has had an attitude with us since day one, bangs on the door at 7 am, and taps on the windows with her fingernails. Honestly, it seems like a race thing. A change of management is definitely needed.

I checked in with my Service Animal, and they charged me for it, even though the ADA says they aren’t “Pets.” They refused to remove the charge, so I canceled the room. I understand it’s a franchise, but charging for Service Animals is illegal, and I’ll report this to the Extended Stay corporate office.
