If you're after somewhere unusual, the main hall can be used for small events. Ask The Mayan Bar and Grill about arranging a visit to the foyer and hall; with special permission, you may also be able to walk through the empty hotel corridors, though there could be ghosts. The Aztec Hotel has been here since Prohibition, and The Mayan Bar and Grill is its focal point. You can also stop in for food and music.

The lobby has a real step-back-in-time feel, and the architecture is distinctive. This historic Route 66 hotel has older rooms, but they have plenty of character. Staff were polite and helpful. A fun, quirky stop if you like history.

Michelle, the owner, showed us around the ground floor, and what a lovely place it is. We were driving Route 66 when we found this gem, then had brunch at the Mayan Bar and Grill with a perfect Mimosa. They’re remodeling the motel, and I hope the gorgeous 1930s Art Deco look stays. If you’re traveling Route 66, stop here in Monrovia!

We spotted the balloons and decorations outside and decided to see what was going on. I was there with friends, and we had a great time catching up over really delicious drinks. I’d also had my hair done next door, so stopping by afterward was convenient. I’d go again and recommend it to everyone I know.

I’ve been coming to this place for years, and it looks like the new owners are fixing it up nicely. There’s a new business out front, a card shop, and I took my son there. He had a blast.
