Ocean Resort Inn

We only stayed one day, but it was a cute hotel and a good deal for the price and location. It’s one block from the beach, and we could see the ocean from our window. The room was clean and the staff easygoing. I liked that we could take chairs and umbrellas to the beach.

I’ve stayed at the Ocean Resort twice before, so this was my third visit. The room was clean, but both the Ocean Resort and its sister property seem to be showing wear and tear. The experience was a big change from my earlier visits, and, with fond memories of the Ocean Resort, I found it disheartening. I hope management invests in renovations and pays more attention to upkeep so the property can regain its former charm and exclusivity and stays can feel memorable again. My ground-floor Queen room was what was available, but it fell well short of what I expected. It was tiny, dark, and claustrophobic, with a permanently sealed window whose glass was cracked. Dusty, dark curtains made the room feel even more dismal. The heavy smell of cheap cleaning chemicals drove me to leave the door and bathroom window open. Once that smell faded, a musty odor took its place, which seemed to point to poor maintenance. The room felt like a cheap motel, at odds with the resort’s advertised exclusivity. I asked the front desk if I could change rooms, but both properties were fully booked. I got the sense the staff knew the room’s quality was subpar.

The beach access is great, and the chairs, umbrellas, and pool area were nice. The room itself was extremely small, though, and downstairs rooms offer little privacy. It was noisy despite the quiet hours, with someone’s TV audible upstairs all night and a lousy AC unit. After I posted this, someone called to ask about my stay, but the conversation became an argument that my feedback was unfair. I later learned I’d misunderstood the booking details: a non-courtyard room doesn’t necessarily mean an upstairs room. Still, the call felt focused on defending the property and getting me to change my review, rather than listening and learning from what I’d experienced. He also asked me by email to change it. I don’t like places that respond to feedback that way.

Scarlet at reception was incredibly helpful and kind to us. We had a wonderful time, and I hope she gets the appreciation she deserves.
