Red Roof Inn Monteagle - I-24

There were stains on the comforters, and one bed creaked so loudly it woke the person in the other bed. The room felt run down, with cracked floors and a soft wall beside the shower. Even though we booked a non-smoking room, it smelled like smoke. They still offer smoking rooms, too.

The front desk staff were actually nice, but the room was disgusting. Black mold covered the bathroom ceiling, the bed and sheets had stains and cigarette burns, and the whole place smelled strongly of cigarettes as soon as we walked in. Wall patches were peeling, the clothes hanger was coming out of the wall, and the shower curtain rod was loose too. I booked a deluxe non-smoking room with a king bed after seeing pictures that looked decent for a two-star hotel, but the room looked nothing like them. They must be at least five years old. The housekeeping staff knocked every morning, which is normal, so we asked the front desk for a do not disturb sign. On the second day they took it off and knocked again, waking us up. What was the point of the sign? The place felt like a complete scam. I wouldn't offer that room to anyone.

The bed was wet and covered in stains, and the door wouldn't lock. There was actual dirt built up on the hand towels, like they hadn't even tried to clean them. I'm a pretty experienced traveler, and this was easily the most uncomfortable hotel stay I've had. A 3.3-star rating is ridiculously high. The photos don't show how the rest of the hotel is.

Archie, the cutest little pup, was there to greet me when I checked in. Getting the key was easy, and the manager was kind and friendly. I booked at the last minute and got a great price, which was convenient. The hotel is right by the interstate, so there's some traffic noise, but it didn't bother me.
