Courtyard by Marriott Los Angeles Monterey Park

We booked at the last minute for a one-day change of scenery and didn’t get to do much. The gym was well equipped, but the pool was very small. There’s room nearby that isn’t being used, so they could add a jacuzzi. The stay was good, though I missed having a good bar close by. I usually take two-day getaways to Koreatown because there’s so much to do, but my partner and I love Asian food, so I thought we’d try Alhambra. There’s a bar in the hotel that we should have checked out, maybe next time. Some great restaurants are nearby, including HK Café and Ocean Island Dim Sum, so check out my reviews for those.

It’s a new hotel in a great location, and at first glance it seems clean. But the bathroom smelled like urine, there was hair on the bathtub and floors, and the mirrors were dirty. The disposable coffee cup and lids in the room had been used and still had coffee in them. My kids walked around in socks and they turned black right away.

The only things that fell short were the room temperature and shower pressure. Even after 15+ hours, the room didn’t reach the temperature I set, though it stayed comfortable because it was cold outside. On the 6th floor, the shower pressure was just a dribble. Those are my only two complaints. The bed and pillows were extraordinarily comfortable, and the hotel was VERY clean, with nothing to complain about on that front. The staff were phenomenal. Dom checked me in and then checked me out in the morning. He was polite and proper, and clearly cares about customers. He even gave me complimentary water when I came down in the middle of the night. Great guy! Five55 is attached to the hotel. I suggest the burger. It was very affordable, the staff were polite, and the food came quickly so I could get back to my room. The location is phenomenal for business travel, with tons of great restaurants nearby. A great hotel, though not the best.

We stayed six nights, but despite daily cleaning being included, the room was never properly serviced. On the fifth day I asked specifically for cleaning and was told housekeeping only comes at 8 a.m. They couldn’t come later because we were still sleeping then. For a hotel at this price, that’s unacceptable. Management is very poor, and the bathroom pressure is so weak that showering is a struggle. This was the worst service I’ve had at a hotel. It isn’t worth the money, and I definitely don’t recommend it.
