Best Western Plus Monterey Inn

We had a pleasant stay. The rooms were clean, and the front desk was helpful even late at night. There's no microwave in the room, which surprised me. You can warm food in the lobby, but have to take it there. The lobby's hot chocolate and cappuccino machine was great.

The staff made a great impression, and we'd be very happy to return. The room was comfortable and roomy, breakfast was nutritious, and coffee was available all day. It was a great value. One thing that disappointed us was management's lack of flexibility. Even though we asked a month ahead, they wouldn't let us postpone the visit.

For a short stop, the hotel's location is handy, especially for getting onto the freeway south toward Big Sur and Highway 1. It's also easy to reach 17 Mile Road, and the parking garage is convenient. I was in Room 214. For stays beyond one night, I'd look elsewhere. At this price, it didn't feel worthwhile. The room had several frustrating issues. The balcony door was closed but unlocked when I arrived, and was left that way again after I requested cleaning. The entry door also has a large gap underneath. In the bathroom, the sink tap creaked, and the towel hangs just above the toilet paper despite there being space to arrange things better. The showerhead was broken and sprayed unevenly, the water pressure was weak, and it took two or three minutes for hot water to arrive. The room had several notices about saving water, but better plumbing would help. The TV had a strange subscription setup with local channels but none of the familiar cable ones, such as CNN, BBC, or CNBC, so bring a laptop if you want to stream. Breakfast was limited. I liked the coffee with hazelnut or vanilla creamer, toasted bagels, and Rice Krispies, but there was no fruit or anything similar.

The area around the hotel is beautiful, and this has been the best Best Western I've stayed at. The front desk service was nice, and the rooms were super clean. The beds were made wonderfully. I'm fussy about hotel beds and pillows, but didn't need to use my own blankets or pillows. There's no AC, though the heater and thermostat worked very well. I'll add more photos.
