Casa Munras Garden Hotel & Spa

The room was great for my birthday weekend, and I liked being able to open the window and use shutters instead of blackout curtains. The morning military trumpets were a nice wake-up. You can hear neighbors through the walls, though it wasn’t too loud, and people did respect quiet hours. One thing they should check is the mini fridge. Mine didn’t keep food cold, and I had to throw away and replace what I’d planned to take on a morning hike. I would have mentioned it if I’d stayed longer.

This older place is fairly well maintained, and our spacious room with two queen beds and bathroom were clean. It’s handy for getting around Monterey and Carmel, and there’s a restaurant with daily happy hour, except apparently on NYE. The pillows were a little flat, and if you’re a light sleeper, ask for a room without another above it because footsteps carry. Since it had been raining, doormats would have helped keep wet shoes out of the room. Also, signs asking people not to stop in the driveway at check-in might help. A couple of inconsiderate guests blocked both lanes and backed up people trying to enter and park.

Our king room was cozy and very clean, and the fireplace made it even nicer. The heater worked perfectly, and the grounds and facilities were well cared for. Even with all the rain, we didn’t see flooding anywhere on the property. Parking is first come, first served, which was manageable. Check-in and check-out went smoothly despite booking through a third-party site. The coffee maker, mugs, and creamers being in the restroom was gross, though. Still, it was a great stay in the heart of Monterey, and absolutely we’d return.

The rustic feel of the room was nice, and the gym was a big plus for us. It’s a good location, and check-in was easy.
