Spindrift Inn

The beach is right there, so it's easy to have a relaxed outing without going anywhere. We also enjoyed snacks and wine in the evening, just enough to tide us over until a later dinner. Staff were friendly, and since our room was ready they let us check in early. Valet parking was affordable and convenient in such a busy area. The secure lot and 24-hour access gave us peace of mind. We stayed in a King Oceanfront room and felt it was worth the cost. The view over the water was wonderful for watching otters and sea lions. With the window cracked open, we could hear the waves all day and night. We didn't miss having AC, even on warm days, and enjoyed the sea breeze and sounds of the wildlife. The room was clean and well kept, with coffee, soft sheets, and plenty of pillows. The fireplace made an evening drink by the bay-facing window day bed feel especially cozy. It's hard to beat the location for the aquarium, walks, and looking out at wildlife. The waterfront trail is an easy stroll in either direction, and the shops and aquarium are within walking distance.

The free continental breakfast had a nice mix: cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, pastries, coffee, orange juice, and milk. The valet guys were great, and the bellhop was very helpful. We didn't need much from housekeeping, but they took care of the one thing we asked for quickly. The front desk was busy, yet there was no delay. I could stretch and call one thing a drawback: check-in is at 4, and it would've been nice to have the option of getting in earlier, especially after a long drive when you can't predict traffic. They did take our bags and put them away while we had a lovely lunch, though, so it's not really a complaint. I was hungry, and there were plenty of ways to spend the time.

Our room came with a sauna, fireplace, and balcony, which made the stay feel special. The in-room breakfast was a great start to the day, and the location was close to everything while still being surprisingly quiet. Beach access was a fun bonus. We'd happily return. The only downside was waiting a long time for the valet to bring the car. There didn't seem to be nearby self-parking. The valets were working hard and clearly doing their best.

We came to The Spindrift for our honeymoon in 2012, then didn't return for 14 years. Some things have changed over time, but the hotel and its views are still just as beautiful. It's one of our favorite places. I hope we make it back sooner than another 14 years from now!
