We paid for a stay from February 15 to 17, 2026, for our family with a child at Lone Oak Lodge, and the property had confirmed our reservation before we arrived. In our view, we were denied the stay we had paid for through a series of dishonest actions that may amount to fraud. When we arrived in Lone Oak late in the evening, an employee said the reservation website was down and asked us to fill out a Lone Oak check-in form. Several Spanish-speaking guests were checked in while we waited. Then the employee said her computer and system weren’t working and led us to a colleague in another building. We didn’t know the property, and it was dark, so we followed her directions. She assured us the other employee’s system worked and that both properties had the same owner, so there would be no problem. We initially thought we were being checked into Lone Oak. Instead, the employee used our Lone Oak form to place us at Red Roof Inn, without our consent or knowledge. The room was nothing like the Lone Oak photos and was substandard, small, dirty, and sticky, with a bad smell, hair, and what looked like blood on the sheets. The bedding hadn’t been changed. We immediately went back to the first employee and asked to be moved to the place we had booked. We told her we would never have booked Red Roof. She said someone would soon switch us to our booked room or change the bedding and clean up. She again claimed it was the same property and owner, even though the name was Red Roof and didn’t match our booking. We contacted her again and wrote directly to Red Roof, and have evidence of that. Nobody came or called. We stayed in the disgusting room just to have a roof over our heads that night, in an unfamiliar area that didn’t seem safe, especially with a small child. We believe the employee lied and overbooked, and that Spanish-speaking people were given rooms at Lane Oak for racist reasons while we were left without the accommodation we paid for. After we asked the property for an explanation and compensation, it avoided responding. Another hotel employee knew what had happened and told us to file an official complaint requesting compensation for the dishonest treatment. We travel all over the world and have never experienced this. The service had nothing to do with professionalism or honesty. We were moved to the correct room the next day, and it matched the photos and was clean, but the hotel still did nothing and ignored us. The property also falsely says we accepted other accommodation options, which is a complete lie. Someone overbooked and tried to force us into an awful, dirty, smelly room while claiming it was the same property. That is clear fraud. Nobody apologized, took responsibility, or compensated us, which should be standard in this situation. The service was at the lowest level, without professionalism, honesty, or basic decency.

The rooms were clean, modern, and a decent size, with enough parking. I wish I’d known that booking directly would have gotten me a price match and free parking instead of paying $11. There’s a liquor store across the street and a couple of restaurants down the road, but not much else nearby. The attractions are a quick drive away.

The location felt safe enough, and over our three days we didn’t have nightmare neighbors or noise from upstairs. There are no second floors, which was nice. The finishes looked really nice and the place may have been remodeled in the past two or three years, though I don’t know for sure. It was mostly clean, but several things went wrong. The shower door was stuck shut on the faucet side, so turning on the water sprayed cold water on you. The toilet leaked from the bottom, which is dirty water, yuck. I told the office, and maintenance came within an hour but didn’t fix either problem. He shifted the shower door, but it was still hard to move and locked up again when we tested it. For the toilet, he only added caulk to the floor, and by our last day it was seeping into the tile grout again. Zero stars for maintenance. The bathroom has real tile and gets cold, so I’d bring slippers. The AC and heat unit was noisy, though not enough for me to report it. The bedding was sparse, with a hard mattress and a light blanket between two sheets as a comforter. There were small stains, probably coffee or dirt, but they made me wonder if it was clean. Paint was peeling all over the walls. The best thing was that there were no bugs, and it’s very close to Del Monte Beach. I won’t stay again. If maintenance is any indication, the remodel won’t stay nice for long.

This quaint little motel has had a recent remodel, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. The rooms were very clean and had modern lighting, plus the usual coffee, mini fridge, and microwave. Our two-room setup had two queens, a king, one bathroom, and two sets of those amenities. The old-fashioned in-wall HVAC units worked well. Some interior corners still needed attention, and the decorative flowerpots looked like they should be replaced. The standout for me was the powerful shower, like the standard from before the 21st century. The location is convenient for most things. One tip for newcomers: Monterey tap water tastes especially bad. I’d bring bottled water or some kind of filter.
