Super 8 by Wyndham Monterey

We liked being close to Monterey’s main area, and it was easy to head south on Highway 1 toward Big Sur. Denny’s is right across the street, and the room and location were clean and good. It was a good deal for our trip just before spring break. The room was on the small side and didn’t have a microwave. The older air conditioner worked, but it wouldn’t heat unless we set the temperature very high. That wasn’t a problem with March temperatures, though it could matter in winter or summer.

The price was good for a comfortable stay, and I’d come back. Super 8 was convenient, check-in was quick and easy, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. My room was clean and the bed comfortable. Free Wi-Fi and breakfast were nice to have too.

The front desk man and woman were great, and the rooms were in good shape. Parking didn’t cost anything. Still, for such a bare-bones motel, the cash price per night felt too high.

The office staff were friendly and helpful during our weekend stay, but we had a few frustrating problems. Both nights, we could hear the TV through the thin walls from next door. The bedstand lamp’s electrical and USB outlets didn’t work, and when we asked for another lamp, we were told there weren’t any. Travelers use those outlets all the time, so there should be spares. On Monday morning there was no ice. They sent us to the Ramada down the street, which was a big inconvenience. Ice is important and should be easy for guests to get.
