Arbor Inn Monterey

We drove much less than expected because there was so much within walking distance. The location and hotel size make the Arbor Inn a real bargain. We spent three nights there and had a great time. Highly recommend the Wild Plum cafe down the street!

The staff were friendly, but the hotel was terrible, and I'm very disappointed. I expected much better. There was trash on the ground outside a rear window, and the shower had almost no water pressure. In my room, there was no security latch, just holes where one had been, and no proper way to get between the entertainment stand and one of the beds. The carpet was old and awful. I could hear the neighboring guests through the connecting door, and they tried to open it. I asked Expedia for a refund and was told I had to speak to the manager in the morning. Do not stay here with a family and kids. If you're young and in party mode, maybe you'd be drunk and not care, but that's not what I expected.

The gentleman at the front desk was cordial and quiet. The motel was clean, and although the rooms are older, they were well kept. There isn't breakfast. Ground-floor guests can park right in front of their room, but the street-level rooms have no view at all. The bathroom supplies were shower gel and a shampoo-conditioner mix, so I'd bring my own shampoo and conditioner.

My bathroom had black mold growing in it and a dirty vent. The customer service was horrible. I offered my room to make it easier to move a customer to the first floor because of handicapped access, but the receptionist wouldn't arrange it. She said moving people around was “too much work.”
