Jabberwock Inn

The bed was super comfortable, and the breakfasts and evening hors d'oeuvres were better than what we’ve had at plenty of restaurants. We stayed for a weekend in the mome rath room, close to Cannery Row. Downtown Monterey was about a 30-minute walk or a 5-minute drive. Most of the time it was quiet, but footsteps and doors carry through the property. We could hear a toddler crying in the middle of the night during our stay. That’s outside the owners’ control and might depend on where your room is, so we didn’t take off points. Earplugs could be useful. I’d recommend a short stay here :)

The room was cozy, very clean, quiet, and had great views. We first came here for our anniversary in 2009, and returned because we wanted to explore more of Monterey. It was a great choice. Dorothy greeted us, showed us around, and our arrival lined up with afternoon wine and appetizers. We enjoyed meeting the other guests. Breakfast was different each morning and exquisite, and the staff was accommodating with dietary needs. Rick, one of the owners, was charming and knew so much about the inn’s history. We didn’t meet Suzanne, but did meet Bobby, the rescue pup who came by for a visit and doesn’t live there. We loved the inn’s history and Monterey’s beauty, and plan to come back this year. It’s a perfect little getaway for us.

The ocean view and easy walk to the beach and aquarium were lovely. Dorothy and the owners were kind, helpful, and communicative. The walls are a little thin, but the stay’s charm and the care put into it made up for that.

The Inn caught my eye while I was searching for somewhere near the aquarium, and its name intrigued me. It’s easy to get around on foot, though the first block toward the beach is pretty steep. The welcome felt like visiting a dear friend at home. I enjoyed the scenic, tasty breakfast, and my clean, comfortable room had fast wifi. Each evening there was wine and snacks, a nice surprise. Everyone was friendly and accommodating, and the property is full of thoughtful little details to look at as you wander around. I had a positive stay and will recommend it to friends.
