I arrived in Alabama with friends for a big occasion and didn’t have a reservation. The young woman at the desk said I’d booked through a third party, she couldn’t see it, and she didn’t have rooms for all the nights. I called the reservation line, and they said they’d called her but she didn’t answer. That wasn’t true, the phone never rang. We’d just driven 10 hours, and one guest had arrived a day early and was tired. While my Super reservation was being sorted out, I booked a walk-in room directly with the hotel for him for Thursday night. From 9pm until 12:13am, I was on the phone. Neither side could get it sorted out. One Super rep told me that this was what I got and that she’d have someone else handle it. The hotel and Super went back and forth, saying I should have paid for a separate hotel reservation, as if I couldn’t book multiple rooms, and that nothing could be done during a nearly sold-out weekend in this part of Alabama. The desk staff and night auditor could have tried to contact the third party and push the reservation through. Instead, they said they didn’t deal with third-party bookings and there was nothing they could do. I used to work for large hotel chains, and a little customer service could have turned the night around. I lost the money I paid Super and had to spend another $1,500 for three nights in a sold-out area during Jubilee weekend. That’s my real review. I’m posting the same thing for the Comfort Inn in Montgomery Alabama on East Carmichael road.

As a frequent guest with this company, check-in was quick and easy, and the hotel concierge was very friendly and polite. The breakfast tasted good, though not at its best, so I’d rate the experience 8 out of 10. The hallway was a disappointment, with clumps of red dirt from someone’s boot and other debris all the way down it. The floor panels were uneven and springy underfoot, which made them uncomfortable and a poor flooring choice. The room was tastefully decorated as usual and even had two TVs, but only one worked. The other was nearly falling off the wall. I reported it, but nobody came. Still, overall it was a good experience.

I booked a king suite online, but my plans changed on the day of the trip and a friend came with me. The woman at the front desk refused to switch me to two double beds, saying it wasn’t possible because I’d booked through a third party. The room also fell far below standards. It had strange stains on the bedside table, missing wall trim, a melted hair dryer, and black stains all over the mirror. You had to reach in from the far side to turn on the shower, so you got wet before the water could warm up. We always choose Comfort Inn, but our stay at the location in Montgomery Alabama last night was by far our worst experience ever. This place needs help.

Breakfast was missing nearly everything: no waffle syrup, milk for cereal, meat, or eggs, among other things. One guest was putting little cream packets on cereal instead. The room had its own problems too. There were no sheets or pillows for the gray pullout sofa, and its strap had what looked like blood on it. Sitting there made me itch, though I can't say whether it was fleas from someone's dog or something else. Housekeeping put clean towels on the sofa, and when I said it needed cleaning first, she didn't understand me. I also saw a small dark bug in the bathtub.

The room itself was fine, especially if you like a very firm bed. We were still accommodated even though the hotel was overbooked and staff asked us to move to Prattville, which wasn't workable since our group was arriving from different places. The pet rules are confusing: Booking.com says pet friendly, the website says dogs only, and a sign at the hotel says no pets, though they do accept pets for a nightly fee. There isn't a pool or spa anymore, despite the photos showing them. Staffing seemed just enough to get things done, but not enough for quick service. The one person at reception also had to handle breakfast, which felt efficient for management more than for guests.
