Best Western Plus Brandywine Inn & Suites

The room had some good points: it was spacious, fairly quiet, with a comfortable bed and an A/C that kept it cold. Breakfast was included at a reasonable time, and the gym was much bigger and better stocked than I expected. But it was only surface-cleaned. When I went to take a bath, I was startled by mold and gunk under the soap holder, and little bugs kept showing up in the room.

I had no other hotel options in town, so I stayed the night, but I won't choose this place again for a business trip. The shower had standing water and the bathroom was gross. The main room had a stained couch, and although the bed looked decent and clean, I checked it for bedbugs. Even the light switch by the entrance did nothing. In the middle of the night, a chirping smoke detector was the last straw.

The gym is nice, and the pool and hot tub were okay, but the condition of the room was another story. I don't understand how this hotel has a 3.9 rating. I check locks and cleanliness when I arrive, and at first glance the room seemed okay. Around 11 p.m., I saw bugs crawling on the end table and on my Bible. I couldn't sleep in my car because of my shoulder injury, and there was often no manager on duty. I had only come for a day getaway before pending shoulder surgery and wanted to sleep, shower, and go home. At 4 a.m., after reading, reflecting, and meditating as I do each day, I found a large rusty, nasty spot and a hole in the tub. I left right away. There was no manager when I checked out, so I asked a young man to leave a note saying I wanted full compensation. He told me to call in a few hours when a manager would be there. I called over and over with no answer. Customer service couldn't reach a manager either. Chelsea in Arizona said she'd follow up in a couple days about compensation, which was up to each property. I'd stayed at some very nice Best Westerns before, but this particular one was atrocious. I have photos of a bug bite on my neck from after I got home and immediately showered. If I'd wanted to camp, I would have, especially with major surgery coming up. Compensation needs to come quickly. There may also be shady people, employees, and activity going on here. Best Western should take a long, hard look at this property. The only reason I gave it any stars is that I'm a fair and professional person.

There were large brown stains on the sofa bed mattress, and the TV in our room was busted when we tried to put on a movie. They offered a room change, but doing that late at night with kids was inconvenient. The pool and hot tub were in rough shape, breakfast was mediocre, and the bathrooms weren't cleaned well and need updating. This was our first and last stay. Avoid.
