Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Montrose

The mattress shifted around, and every footstep from other people seemed to send noise and vibration through the floors. Breakfast wasn't much better: rubbery eggs and a disappointing selection. Most frustrating, though, was finding a dirty sock, old dog food, and white dog hair all over our floor. They charged a $100 pet fee, but hadn't vacuumed up the previous guests' mess. We were exhausted from our cross-country move, so we went to bed and mentioned it to the manager as a courtesy. The next morning I asked for even a partial refund because $260 a night for an uncleared, unvacuumed room seemed ridiculous. I'd have been glad with 10%, but today I got an email receipt showing the full $260 charge. I wish I'd read the one- to three-star reviews before staying.

I had to leave town before severe weather, but this property required 48 hours' notice to cancel and wouldn't make an exception. They charged me for an overnight stay even though I left at 7:50 am. As a Lifetime Titanium elite member with Bonvoy, I find that inflexible policy ridiculous and greedy. This isn't the Marriott service I've known for over 25 years. I'll use another brand when I travel back.

The location is amazing, and the staff were great, but the building itself was disappointing. The floors creak, and the walls are so thin you can hear the people next door. I'm a longtime Marriott customer with more than 50 nights this year, and I woke up in the middle of a neighboring room's conversation. I wasn't happy with that.

Best place to stay in town. I left my AirPods behind, and they offered to mail them or let me pick them up next time I'm back. The manager was awesome. Thank you!
