Quality Inn Morgan City

The room looked decent and had been remodeled, but that's about the best part. The buildings are old and run down, there's junk outside, and the parking lot felt unsafe. People were running around and yelling. We were taken in by the 7.6 rating and all the praise for breakfast. The voucher said one per room, but when I went to use my one breakfast voucher at 9, the lobby clerk laughed and said I'd missed breakfast. This place feels sketchy from top to bottom. I wouldn't recommend staying here, even to a homeless person.

After a 12-hour drive, we arrived to find out they required a $150 card deposit to stay, even though I'd booked and paid online and couldn't find the deposit listed on the website. The manager was unavailable, and they couldn't find a number to cancel the reservation and refund me. I eventually found a number myself, and hotels.com approved the refund. They said it could take up to two weeks for the money to come back.

The room itself was decent and clean, and on its own I'd probably rate it a 4. What brought this down to a 2 was the way the money was handled, plus the breakfast restrictions. My two-night rate was $82.83, but they wanted a $150 incidental deposit, which seems excessive for a budget hotel. The front desk person eventually let me leave a $50 cash deposit hold if I promised not to trash the room. I'm a Diamond Elite member and stay in hotels every weekend, so that wasn't an issue. Then she put a $165.63 charge or pending amount on my card for both nights, followed by a separate $82.83 charge. She said they hold the full amount and bill each day's stay daily. After checkout, I got my $50 deposit back and left, but then got an alert for another pending $50 hotel charge. The hotel said they hadn't done it, the account was closed, and it would go away. Three days later, it was still there. The TV didn't work at first, and neither did the hotel phone, so I called the front desk another way. The response was basically that it was the internet and maybe someone could look the next day. When I eventually got TV, it kept freezing, reloading, and cutting out. The website also says breakfast is free, but I had to ask for a pass, and was told each room gets one. Breakfast costs more than $18 per person, which doesn't match the food quality. Update to their response: the Choice Hotel page doesn't list the $150 fee anywhere in the hotel policies.

My company had guests coming to town, and this was the perfect place for them. I trusted the staff to make them feel welcome and treat them with hospitality.
