SureStay by Best Western Morgan Hill

This feels like a one-star hotel, a real dive. So many things in the room needed fixing: the TV barely worked and only got one station, and the tub faucet needs replacing. It barely turns and takes extra strength to control. The curtain rod was damaged and falling off, there was mold in the shower caulk, and the towels were thin.

I wouldn't suggest staying here if you're a woman or have children. I didn't feel safe, and the weed smell didn't help. Our non-smoking room smelled like weed, even though it seemed clean and had new furniture and bedding. The insurance fee was expensive, about the same as the room. Rooms nearby blasted music until 4am. At 4:30am police were banging on a room door, and the guests argued for 30 minutes. By 6am people were walking along the balcony walkway and arguing loudly. More like a motel than a hotel.

After my father passed away, we booked a room for a whole week so my out-of-town family would have a place to stay. There were four of us, so we reserved the two-bed room. The next morning they called to say the hotel had been overbooked because of a walk-in reservation, and offered us a one-bed room instead. I explained that we needed two beds for four people. They said there was a pull-out couch and four of us could still sleep there, so we agreed. On arrival day, we checked in and went back to our family. When we returned to the room later, it was clear the arrangement wouldn't work. The pull-out sofa had a single mattress, not a double or queen, and there were cobwebs, a spider crawling on it, and no sheets. We told them we couldn't sleep four people there, so we booked another hotel. We were exhausted from driving and grieving. At first they refused to refund anything. After we asked again, they agreed to refund the booking, but said they'd keep one night's charge because we had checked in. The seven nights cost $1250, and we got about $900 back. We're disappointed. They overbooked, said four people could sleep there when they couldn't, and had no sheets for the small pull-out mattress. We still had to pay.

It felt like a safe, good location, and the staff were friendly and direct. Check-in was quick, and the room was very clean with a nice look to it. The only thing I wasn't happy with was the high hold charge. Other places tend to hold $1-100, while this one holds $150. The guy at the front said it would clear in a day or two, so overall it's a nice spot.
