The good parts were Red's Bar, the very nice bartender on Tuesday night the 24th, whose food was very good, and the young gentleman with glasses at the desk, who was genuinely helpful. The Stockyards Hotel is in a location with lots of street noise, sirens, and trucks, though. We chose it for its price and spot on the strip, after a Dallas work trip, since we only needed one day and night and didn’t need somewhere as fancy as the Drover. I expected an interesting old hotel with those high-tank toilets, which appealed to me as a plumbing company owner. It was interesting, but the Stockyards felt like Cherokee in North Carolina, only with cowboy trinkets instead of fake American Indian ones. If you’re a rancher, roper, real cowboy, or live in Texas, the shops might be right up your alley, with thousand-dollar boots, custom hats, and western dress-up, beer, and barbecue. Our room 301 was dirty, with dust, dirt, and grime, and the old shower faucet was barely attached. The place felt loud overall, and I got the impression staff were phoning it in because the old, brown look made it easy to cut corners on cleaning. I should’ve asked for a room at the back rather than one facing the street. Around 3am Thursday, before our flight, an alarm downstairs went off for about 10 minutes, as if someone had tried to break in, and it took a while to get back to sleep. It wasn’t what we expected. I think we’re done with kitschy old places that look cool but are simply old.

We had another amazing stay. The staff are always great, and the rooms and general atmosphere feel true to the Stockyards and its history. I’m really bummed to hear they’re going to modernize the whole place and turn it into another modern hotel. Once the renovation’s done, I’ll probably stay somewhere else.

We stayed in room 207 on our first trip to the Stockyards. The hotel has loads of character, the bed was comfortable, and the soft sheets came with plenty of pillows. The bar and restaurant inside were handy, and the staff and service were friendly. I’m glad we stayed and would consider coming back. The street noise was GREAT. Our windows faced the street, and it would have kept us awake without our white noise machine. I’d recommend bringing one. I know the hotel was built in 1906, but the bathroom could use more care. The messy caulking looks like something from a roadside motel, and the ceiling is rust-stained and coming down. I’ll post pictures so you can zoom in and see it. Even so, the prime location, friendly staff, and character of the place might bring me back.

The staff were incredibly friendly, and the hotel’s décor and character pulled me into the Old West without making it feel like a theme park. Our room suited the place too, cozy and warm, a little dated, but that patina added to the experience. It feels like a piece of Fort Worth history, which is why you stay here rather than for sleek modern design. If your room faces the street, pack earplugs. The White Elephant Saloon is right across the way, and some nights can get lively. We barely noticed and slept well after our long flight, but lighter sleepers may want them. It’s a charming stay in the heart of the Stockyards for anyone wanting to experience Fort Worth’s cowboy heritage.

The room change fixed things for me, and I didn’t run into any more problems after switching. But my first room had very dim overhead lights, a window facing other hotel rooms, and a small bug in the sheets. I was there for a company event and the stay was disappointing. Friends in other rooms told me they found feces in the toilet when they arrived, dead bugs in light fixtures, and broken ceiling fans.
