La Quinta Inn & Suites Morgantown

For five years, this was our regular stop between Florida and NY, and we kept returning because the stays had been so nice. That ended this past April. When we arrived, staff were sitting in the lobby and nobody was at the desk. We were there 10 minutes before 3 pm, but as Gold Members were still told to wait until 3 to check in. From 10:30 pm until 2 am, two rooms on our floor were having a party and slamming doors. We called the front desk three times and nothing was done. When I said I’d call the police, the response was, “If that is what you feel you want to do go ahead.” It took a month and repeated contact with corporate before I finally spoke with the manager. I don’t know what changed over the year, perhaps the new franchise owner, but it certainly did. The staff aren’t friendly and breakfast was terrible. We’ll find another hotel in Morgantown next time.

The price seemed reasonable for what we got. Rooms, lobby, and bathrooms were clean and well maintained. Breakfast was offered, but we left before it was served. The only thing I didn’t like was that the beds were a bit too firm for me, though I prefer sleeping on clouds. Otherwise, no complaints.

I appreciated the mini fridge and microwave, and the room was comfortable with a great bed. The continental breakfast was good, the shower clean, and the towels very fluffy. The downside was the thin walls. I could easily hear and understand conversations in the next room.

It’s easy to reach right off the highway, though it’s somewhat away from most of the activity in the area. The rooms are clean and reasonably spacious, and the king beds are very comfortable. I had enough room at the desk to work on my laptop with a separate keyboard and mouse. The shower is spacious and bright, with large glass doors, while the rest of the bathroom is a reasonable size but a bit blah. There’s a bar and grill within walking distance, plus plenty of nearby restaurants, including Starbucks and Chipotle.
