It's a lovely hotel by the river, and the staff at the front were extremely friendly. Still, it felt like they were looking for ways to make money: a $100 pet fee, $16 self-parking at the convention center next door, no Elite recognition or room upgrade even though the hotel was empty, and a charge for enhanced Wi-Fi. I asked about the Wi-Fi and never got a call back. There was no in-room coffee either.

I've stayed twice in the past two years, and both times the cooling system was awful. The room stayed warm all night, and I could never get it comfortable. The room itself was okay, but the price felt high, especially without complimentary breakfast. The walk from the parking garage to the room was very long. I hope I don't have to stay there again.

The rooms were very nice, which is the only reason this wasn't a one-star stay. Parking costs extra and is an annoyingly long walk from the lobby. Breakfast was atrocious. My hotel status got me a complimentary breakfast coupon, and I'm glad I didn't pay for watery eggs, microwave bacon, and yesterday's French toast sticks. I'd get a microwave breakfast item from the on-site Starbucks instead. The restaurant coffee was the one good part. The wait staff also yelled at and harassed us after conveniently forgetting she'd already taken our breakfast ticket, implying we were dining and dashing. Everything besides the rooms felt like a one-star experience.

Our server was lovely, sweet, and attentive, but the kitchen needs work. The pork belly was bland, somehow, and the steak was overcooked. If you're serving prime, you should pay closer attention to the temperatures. The spoon bread I ordered was actually a brunch corn muffin, cut in half and torched in a ramekin. We expected top-notch and got something middle of the road. Maybe it was just an off night. Meh.

I came back December 25-28 after an earlier visit in early November, when the hot tub was out of service. It still wasn't working, and the pool looked dirty. The pool tables and chairs were grimy too. Definitely not what I expect from Marriott.
