Best Western Morton Grove Inn

There wasn’t a convenient place nearby to walk a dog. You had to go down the street and around the block into the neighborhood, even though the hotel says it’s pet friendly. The walkways and steps were narrow and very dirty. Inside the room, the refrigerator was frozen solid and wouldn’t cool, the TV kept losing its signal, and the remote didn’t work. There were only two working bulbs in the lamps, and the room phone didn’t work, so I couldn’t call the front desk. The metal door also had a large gap between it and its frame.

The front desk lady was friendly, but that didn’t make up for how poorly maintained the room felt. The online photos looked nothing like the interior we got: the couch and pillows looked dirty, the walls and furniture were worn, and wires were left exposed. We were given three pillows that looked like kids’ pillows, then the associate brought another one that was dirty. I had to find another hotel and leave the same day after seeing the room’s condition. It looked like nothing had been maintained since the place opened.

I didn’t stay, and lost the room charge after Expedia couldn’t reach the hotel to ask about my cancellation options. I’d prepaid, and regretted it as soon as I pulled in. The place smelled strongly of mold and mildew, and the stairwell smelled like urine. The room entrance opened onto an alley, which felt very unsafe. There were signs saying the hotel wasn’t responsible for theft or vandalism to cars or personal property. They also required a $100 deposit, which seemed unjustified. My health and safety mattered more to me than trying to get a refund, so I booked somewhere else. A health inspector should check for possible mold exposure.

The room was comfortable, and whenever we asked for something, it was taken care of right away. The front desk employees were hospitable on both the day and night shifts.
