Comfort Inn Winchester

The place is peaceful and quiet, and the beds are soft, but that’s about all I can praise. It’s very overpriced for what you get. The pool is permanently out of service, whatever the advertising says, and the Wi-Fi in my room didn’t work. When I called to report it, I got brushed off. There’s no housekeeper, so you have to handle your own trash and take care of the room. Breakfast is just mid. The key cards don’t work, so make sure somebody’s in the room to let you in. Fine if you only need the bare minimum and somewhere to sleep, but otherwise it’s not worth it. They need to step things up or pack up and leave.

Plenty of parking, and the hot water had great pressure and stayed hot. The beds were comfortable and the place was clean. I’d stay again.

I’m sensitive to strong smells, and the layered odor coming from the bed, as if one smell were covering another, made it impossible for me to sleep there. I ended up in the chair instead. The room hadn’t been cleaned well or maintained properly. Its only source of air circulation was an air conditioner so loud it sounded like a train going by. The window had the messiest sealant job I’ve ever seen, and the bathroom fan rattled like it could fall from the ceiling and clearly needed work. Breakfast was extremely minimal, with no apparent effort to make it enjoyable. I’d only recommend this place as a last resort in an emergency.

Check-in was quick, but they told me there’d be no hot breakfast. There was only one bath towel for two guests, and nobody explained how to use the TV, which had just one channel. The microwave and coffee maker weren’t plugged in. I didn’t know if something was wrong, so I left them alone. At checkout, the receptionist was lying on the couch, and it took too long to get checked out.
