SureStay Plus Hotel by Best Western Mountain View

The bed was comfortable, but the carpet was stained and needs replacing. I don't usually write critical reviews, but I can't recommend staying here if you need internet for work. The room WiFi kept cutting out and was off more often than on. When I complained, the front desk said it was a persistent issue in the rooms, especially on the second floor. I was on the first.

My first stay was great: I was traveling alone, and the room was nice and clean, with friendly staff. On my second visit I brought my two kids. I paid the deposit fee, which was fine, but we were put in awful room 102. The carpet was stained, there was a boot print on the wall, the floor was dirty, and I found a small bug in the bed. I took pictures and showed the night staff member at the desk. He seemed put out. I said I wasn't sure why the room was in that state, but for the price I expected better, especially with a bug in the bed. He said it looked like a bee. I said it wasn't and showed him the photo, but he still insisted, so I told him to look for himself. He said it was housekeeping or maintenance's job. Then he said there were no rooms and asked if I could come back tomorrow. No, I'd reserved for that night. He did find us a better room. The woman on the morning staff was great and very sweet. I tried to add pictures of the room and bug to this review but couldn't.

The room smelled like dirty socks. The odor didn't go away, even after a Roman cleaning service was done.

The staff were very nice, polite, and helpful, and the management/owner was excellent, five stars from me. The area felt safe and friendly, with Wholefoods, Trader Joe's, Walmart, Target, CVS, Safeway, and restaurants 0.4-0.6 miles away to the north; World Market, strip malls, and restaurants are south. My room was large, the hot water was nice and hot, the microwave, mini fridge, and AC worked very well, and there were 60 TV channels including sports. Breakfast was available on weekdays from 6-9am and weekends from 7-10am. It had coffee, good teas, hot cocoa, three cereals (KashiGo, Fruit Loops, Raisin Bran), Quaker instant oatmeal, whole and skim milk, Yoplait yogurt, round and finger turkey sausages, cooked round egg patties, tater tots, white and wheat bread, bagels, Philly cream cheese, Jif peanut butter, Smuckers jellys, apples, oranges, mini Danishes, ketchup, hot sauce packets, apple juice, and OJ. The beds and bedding, bathroom, and sink were clean during my 12 night stay starting 07.21.25. It's a motel, so set expectations accordingly. The carpet, though, was disgusting, stained, and filthy. I'd rip it out for laminate like other boutique motels along El Camino Real have done. The wallpaper was dirty too and needs cleaning or replacing. I brought slippers. Cleaning was by request only, though towels were available anytime in the main lobby towel closet. The mini fridge clicked on and off loudly at night, and the mattresses were too soft and lumpy. There was no laundry service, not even coin laundry. El Camino Real traffic made it dusty and sometimes noisy; the walls were thin, and I could hear cars and people walking and talking right outside since parking is by the rooms. WiFi kept going in and out. After eight days I requested housekeeping. I asked only for vacuuming, cleaning the tile and bathroom floors, and replacement covers for both beds. The room was kept very clean, but they didn't change the bedding covers: the same stains were still there. I watched from the lobby as the girl remade the beds with the same linens, apparently expecting guests to use them after eight days. I'll get new clean bedding from management myself, but I'm taking off two stars for this. Just NO.
