The Ameswell Hotel

The massage was one of the best I’ve had, and I ended up booking with the owner. We’ve stayed at The Ameswell almost every time we visit Mountain View, with an upcoming visit that may be our fifth or sixth. It’s been reliably good each time: clean, quiet rooms, kind and responsive front desk staff, and no problems. They even arranged a later checkout when I was moving slowly with a migraine. I appreciated that a lot. The bar and restaurant are good too. Some locals come in, which seems like a positive sign, and the servers and bartenders appear to enjoy their work. It’s not a very walkable area, and there isn’t much nearby on foot, but getting to Stanford and the events we’ve attended has been easy. This is our usual place when we’re in town.

Those chicken tenders are so good, and the sparkling water is free. The rooms can be pretty inexpensive when there aren’t local work events, and they’re really nice inside. The decor throughout is great too. A singer performs downstairs every week, the staff have always been nice, and the gym is great. I stayed for a week while I was moving.

We arrived at about 11pm on 24.01.2026 and couldn’t get through the locked main entrance because we hadn’t received a room key yet. The door only opened with a guest’s key or card. Why lock the entrance if people are arriving for late check-in? A female staff member at the front desk saw us from inside but didn’t come to open the door. After we struggled for several minutes, another guest leaving let us in. The receptionist still ignored us and kept chatting on the phone until she was finished, and only then could we check in. The service was poor and the staff were unprofessional. We do not recommend this hotel. Look at the other low reviews and you’ll see we’re not the only ones.

The Stevens Creek Trail is convenient for a walk, and I can see this being a comfortable place to stay for work, given how close it is to several tech companies. We spent New Year’s Eve here for a staycation and booked a one bedroom suite. It was spacious, comfortable, and had nice amenities. The room was quite a hike from the elevator, though, and my key card didn’t work when I first got there, so I had to go all the way back to the desk. They fixed it.
