Comfort Inn & Suites Muncie Near University

I’m a local guide with reviews that have tens of thousands of views, and I’m being honest here. I hope the hotel trains staff on how to handle something like this if it happens again. The front desk woman had a nice personality, but she didn’t offer to remove the man, and I didn’t feel safe staying with my two daughters. I probably should have called the police, though technically he hadn’t done anything illegal. The smell was awful enough that my dirty clothes still smelled of mold the next morning, even though I’d only been inside for a few minutes. I’m glad we left. I would have needed my inhaler if we’d stayed. We found another affordable place, and it’s very nice. The whole thing started when I went to load my things and kids into the room on the third floor. The desk clerk had offered to show me that room because it didn’t have the overwhelming smell I noticed on entering, which reminded me of an old mop or forgotten laundry in a dryer. I’d parked by the back door and watched my 12-year-old daughter, who looks older, go to get a cart. A man was smoking by the door. I couldn’t hear his first words, but she tensed up. When I opened my door, he said he was only kidding and pointed to his white construction truck. He was slurring. My daughter told me he’d said she looked like she was going to shoot him, which made her freeze. He hurried inside. The elevator was slow, but I caught it just as the doors were closing and asked why he was telling my 12-year-old where his truck was. I told him to leave young girls alone. I don’t know what he intended, but it was strange, and I don’t play around with nasty drunk men. The desk clerk was coming out after hearing some of the exchange. He went to his room and immediately called her to complain that I’d yelled at him, loudly enough for me to hear through the phone. I told her I wasn’t comfortable staying and declined her offer to move floors. I went across the street and sat in my truck looking for another place. I could hear him outside talking about us loudly enough from across the lot, while still giving the front desk trouble. One more thing about the hotel itself: after I got to the third-floor room, I found mold on my clothes from being inside only briefly. I’m glad we didn’t stay.

Good value for the money, and the staff were helpful. The room’s AC got nice and cold, and the bathroom mirror had a light around it that would be great for selfies. The rooms were clean, and I liked the tech in them as a nerd. A few things need attention. I was woken at 9 by a smoke alarm malfunction, though staff moved me from room 318 to 205 at no cost. The keys demagnetized too easily, including once when I put one in my pocket, so we had to get them re-magnetized at the desk several times. From a middle floor, you can hear people walking above. The outlets between the beds were so worn that my sleep apnea machine plug kept falling out. I had to pull out the desk and use an outlet behind it. Replacing those outlets, or whatever built-in surge protector they use, would fix it. I’d stay again.

The hotel was clean and quiet, and breakfast had lots of good options. We’ll stay again next time we visit our kid at school.

The pool was open and very clean, and the hall stayed quiet. The beds were comfortable, too. It was clean, reasonably priced, and good value.
