Muncie Place Hotel & Suites

Breakfast was okay, but the small seating area has just five tables for a hotel with over 80 rooms. The room was dark and outdated, and I wondered about the cleaning after seeing a garbage bag covering the smoke alarm. The pool was overwhelmingly salty, and its safety rails and ladder were broken or loose. There was no hot tub, despite the picture on their Google page. We paid $120 and still felt we'd overspent. The reason I'm writing, though, was what happened at breakfast. On 12/14/25, I made a bad call and let my daughter go down without shoes because she was having a rough morning. The employee stocking breakfast pointed an ungloved finger in her face, raised her voice, and told her to leave until she had shoes on, while I, her dad, was standing inches away. She should have spoken to me instead of yelling at a minor. I can handle my kids, and that was completely inappropriate, even if she was right about the shoes. We were supposed to be on vacation. Avoid if you can.

Get an itemized bill and make sure you have it before you leave. The man at check-in was nice, but the woman who checked us out charged a pet fee afterward, even though she'd said the bill was settled. We signed the pet in and paid when we arrived, so I don't understand being charged later. I asked for a receipt copy and didn't get one because, apparently, nothing showed on their end. Then, 2.5 hours later, we were charged because "she didn't realize we were the room with the dog." They need to be more organized. I'd pay $50 more to stay somewhere else. The pool is broken, there's no hot breakfast, and the website hasn't been updated. They're renovating, but still. Come on.

The parking lot was dark because none of the lights worked, and it didn’t feel safe. Inside, our first room had a broken toilet, then the replacement room keys wouldn’t work. Once we finally got in, the walls and baseboards were filthy. The photos showed a pool and hot tub, but the pool was closed for renovations and there was no hot tub. We were also charged twice at check-in. You’d be better off at the Super 8 down the road for half the price.

We were only in town overnight for a touring musical, and the staff made a real effort to make our arrival special. I enjoyed staying here. Some people seem to be unhappy mainly because it no longer has the “Holiday Inn” name, though it’s still under the same parent company if you use IHG rewards. The staff’s effort made this a place I’d stay at again.
