Atlantic Paradise Inn & Suites

We were horrified as soon as we walked into this rundown place. Paint was peeling off the walls, there was mold under the bathroom sink, and a centipede was running around when we woke up. I know hotels get old and wear and tear happens, but this was unacceptable. The room smelled so awful that my mom nearly passed out. The hallway walls were falling apart, and the elevator looked stripped and badly kicked in. There was a big gap under our room door, too. The parking garage was dark and spooky, with hardly anyone around, and made us feel unsafe. This place needs proper upkeep, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. We stayed one night, then booked at Sun N Sand resort the next morning. It was beautiful, clean, and well maintained. Don't waste your hard-earned money on this 70s, run-down hotel. It should be shut down.

After booking three days, I got nervous reading some of the reviews, but so far I'm really happy with the service and our room was nothing like those horror stories. The beds and the rest of the room were extremely clean, and they provided plenty of towels, shampoo, and soap. We haven't seen any sketchy guests. My two- and three-year-olds spent hours enjoying the pool after check-in. There are a few things on the building exterior that could use touch-ups, and the parking garage felt a little weird, but I'm looking forward to the rest of our stay.

The Myrtle Beach boardwalk is just steps from the hotel, with plenty of restaurants, shops, amusement, and other things to do nearby. At check-in, the clerk was gracious and offered us a free upgrade, which we appreciated. It took a little longer than usual, but it was peak check-in time and probably just a rush of people. The room didn't impress me, though I guess you get what you pay for. The hardwood floors were nice, but the queen beds felt more like full-size beds. The lighting was awful, and there was only one outlet in the whole room. I wouldn't use the tub or shower without shower shoes. There were a few loud, boisterous people staying at the hotel who seemed pretty unsavory. Unfortunately, I probably won't come back.

We booked because it was affordable, and got what we paid for. I wasn't expecting a $300-a-night experience for about $75. The room was clean, though a bit outdated, and there were no bedbugs or roaches like some people claimed. Housekeeping were really nice and brought us towels and toilet paper whenever we needed them. The front desk staff were always pleasant, too. I treat people the way I want to be treated, though there were some real low-class jerks staying there, and I can imagine what the staff have to put up with. We had a great time!
