Best Western Plus Myrtle Beach @ Intracoastal

We extended online for a second night on our first evening because the hotel seemed fine. In the morning, we said we’d stay another night and were told we’d have to change rooms because the room type was different. We’d deliberately booked to avoid moving rooms or hotels, so they said they’d see what they could do. While we checked our confirmation email, worried we might have chosen the wrong room type, they called back and said we could stay put. We had booked the right type, so I’m still not sure what they needed to check. The night before checkout, I asked the front desk about a grace period because daylight saving time was springing forward overnight. She wasn’t sure and told me to ask the morning staff. In the morning, the woman said everything had already been allocated. Is that really a thing? When I left, the housekeeper still had rooms waiting to be cleaned. I’ve never had a hotel issue like this before. We were on the first floor, and the phone service was disappointing.

We stayed here while passing through and had a good visit. The room was comfortable and clean, with laminate flooring instead of damp carpet. The heat and AC unit looked new and worked well, the water was hot with strong pressure, and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. There isn’t a view because the hotel sits between a nursing home and a go-kart track, but it’s a Best Western, not a Four Seasons. Anyone expecting beachfront scenery should adjust their expectations. Local attractions are nearby, and shops and other things to do are a short drive away. A nice touch was the complimentary coffee, tea, and hot chocolate available all day and night in the lobby from a fancy commercial Keurig machine that grinds coffee fresh for each cup. Breakfast was better than at most hotels with free breakfast: yogurt from a dispenser, a good range of parfait toppings, fresh pancakes made to order, grits, oatmeal, breads and pastries, eggs, smoked sausage, roasted potatoes, and juice. The woman tending the breakfast bar was attentive, constantly restocking and cleaning. The dining room and tables were neat, clean, and had plenty of seating. The price was very reasonable for the service, and I’d definitely stay again.

The breakfast was a real hot spread, with eggs, sausage, seasoned potatoes, coffee, grits and more, and the staff were all super nice. My room was quiet, clean, and comfortable, especially for the price. The only small snag was the complete lack of USB ports in both the rooms and shared areas, so bring the wall plug for your phone charger.

Aside from the shower setup, it was a comfortable stay, and both the room and bathroom were very clean. The curtain was too narrow and had no liner, so shower water soaked the floor. There also weren't enough towels to mop it up.
